Your Bio

My name is Pat James and welcome to 'A New Leaf Photography'. The name may seem a bit curious, but it really represents my desire to finally pursue a long-time interest I've had in photography since I got my first Pentax K1000 in high school. As a 25-year radio broadcast professional in St. Louis, Missouri, radio has always been a love of mine because of it's ability to evoke emotions through the single human sense of hearing. Photography offers a similar challenge to create feelings through only sight. When I'm not on ther air or shooting, my wife and I live in St. Charles with our two wonderful daughters. I invite you to check back as my galleries continue to grow. pat james, radio, wil, wil-fm, 92.3, st. louis, saint louis, "st. louis photographer", "saint louis photographer", "st. louis photography", "saint louis photography", cornbread, cornbread show, broadcasting, country, music, personality, cma, awards, photographer, photography, scenery, missouri, illinois, river, saint charles, st. charles, still, life, art, decorating, a new leaf photography, anewleafphotography, historic, history, linton, tracy, scenic, mountains, scenery, "pat james", "st. louis", "st. louis photography", "saint louis photography", "st. charles photography", "st. charles, missouri photography", "saint charles photography", "saint charles, missouri photography", "st. charles", "st. louis", "saint louis", "saint charles" wil-fm, wil radio, 92.3, 92.3-fm, radio, personality, cornbread, "cornbread show", bonneville, broadcasting, 92, wil, st. louis, saint louis

Missouri, Illinois, and Central States : Growing up in the Midwest, I have seen most of it. While many folks from either coast may not believe there could be comparable beauty in the Midwest, they speak from a complete lack of experience. I have found that there is MUCH to photograph.

St. Charles Scenery : While we consider St. Louis to be our city, St. Charles is truly our home. St. Charles County lies directly west of St. Louis, and the town of St. Charles is about a 20 minute drive from the Gateway Arch. St. Charles boasts a significant history, and enjoys a vibrant downtown and Main Street thanks to a Chamber and City Government that continuously markets it as a tourism destination. Nestled along the Missouri River, our town of St. Charles and surrounding St. Charles County provides me with endless opportunities to photograph.

Colorado, Yellowstone and California : It has been many years since I have travelled into the hills and mountains of The West. While living in Kansas, before we had children, Tracy and I found ourselves drawn westward to the scenic views of some of our finest National Parks. Yellowstone, Rocky Mountain National Park, and The Grand Canyon. These trips were taken before digital, so the few photos I've posted here are mostly scans. First order of business when our youngest is old enough to hike...GO BACK.

Sites Around St. Louis : St. Louis may not be the most cosmopolitan, modern, or beautiful city in the country. But after living here for some years, you begin to realize just how much it has to offer. It's a city that's reinventing itself, with a downtown area in transition; converting old warehouse space into modern lofts. As people begin to return to downtown, the city continues to reinvest in attractions and a sense of community. For years photographers have found subjects to shoot here. While I've captured some of those same shots, I continue to try and find those unique spots in a city that has many to offer.

Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and the Northeast : Since marrying a New Englander, I've found our trips there always full of opportunities for "family time" and "photo time". Only recently, have I taken our visits seriously as photographic opportunites...in 2008 and 2009. I am still adding photos from this year's recent trip...so check back!

The St. Louis Cardinals : Upon our arrival to St. Louis in 2004, we were immediately thrust into the city's playoff fervor that was the run for the World Series. It was a whirwind we'd never experienced before, and an excitement this city continues to enjoy year after. It didn't take long for these non-baseball fans to become Cardinal fans, and we're proud to live here still...in Baseball Heaven.

Kimmswick, Missouri : In March 2009, we spent a day in Kimmswick, Missouri just south of St. Louis. Compared to when this small town celebrates the Strawberry Festival and Apple Butter Festival, it was MUCH sleepier at this time of year...though the Blue Owl is ALWAYS packed. I love the older buildings here, and the uniquely decorated shops downtown.

Florida Days : Tracy and I met in The Sunshine State, and have fond memories of our days there. My time there was short, which was why this gallery is so small. We'll be back.

Christmas Traditions in St. Charles : One of the things we love about St. Charles is the yearly celebration of "Christmas Traditions" on Main Street. The merchants go all out to decorate their store-fronts, and the streets are alive with actors dressed as traditional Chistmas characters from all around the world. It's a guaranteed way to get into the Christmas Spirit.
